Permineralization of wood occurs when the original pore space in the plant has been depleted from rot, wood boring beetles, or humans. The pores are replaced with minerals, but I have yet to find out how this takes place.

 

The following pieces are part of a year long conduction of experiments attempting to induce perimineralization. The progress continues to enfold.
